North Coast Land Conservancy On the Land Nature Walks

September 2nd, 2012 by insideout

Cannon Beach OR ViewOur Cannon Beach B&B is proud to support the efforts of the North Coast Land Conservancy (NCLC).* This Northwest Oregon Coast organization, as their mission statement says, works to “conserve and protect land in perpetuity for its ecological and cultural values.” As part of their good work, the NCLC fosters a sense of stewardship for the land with fun, educational programs. Some of our favorites are their “On the Land” walks.

This program a great way to experience the birds, animals, forests and waters of Oregon’s North Coast. As an added bonus, these guided walks, often in pristine protected areas, are all free. You do have to register in advance, though. This keeps the groups small and intimate, plus there’s less impact on the lands and waters visited.

A knowledgeable guide always leads the way and you can learn so much about the ecology of our region. It’s also a beautiful scenic tour of some of the most beautiful areas on the North Oregon coast.

These are some of the the upcoming On the Land programs:

Ecology Walk: Floodplain Restoration in Action
@ Circle Creek Conservation Center, Seaside
This will take place on Friday, September 14, from 10 am to noon and will be lead by Katie Voelke.

Foraging in the Forest
@ Ecola Creek Forest Reserve, Cannon Beach
Lead by Carla Cole, this engaging program will happen on Friday, October 19, 10 am to noon.

Amphibian Adventure: Frogs, Salamanders and More!
@ Circle Creek Conservation Center, Seaside
Mike Patterson will lead this walk about some of our favorite local amphibians on October 20, 10 am to noon.

Be sure to wear good walking shoes and to dress for the changeable weather of the Pacific Northwest coast. You’l also want to bring something to drink, snacks, binoculars and a camera.

While you’re enjoying our peaceful and luxurious Cannon Beach accommodations, be sure to take advantage of these lovely and informative On the Land Nature Walks.

Arch Cape Inn and Retreat is in the process of changing its mission statement and daily living activities in order to become eligible for green certification. A particular emphasis for us focuses on protecting and preserving the water quality of our local area.
In an effort to keep our water clean, water that surrounds us everywhere, we are making  changes in our habits. One such change that is easy to do is to use ordinary vinegar in a spray bottle as a surface cleaning agent.
