Spring Break at the Beach
February 11th, 2013 by insideoutWinter is nearly over and springtime is just around the corner! Most of us have spent the last few months indoors and as the warmer weather returns, we encourage you to take to the outdoors!
Pet Friendly Lodging on the Oregon Coast
For us, the return of Spring means we are bringing our dogs back out to the beach and the park. If you are also a dog owner (or dog parent, as they say these days) our Cannon Beach B&B is pet friendly and the perfect place for you and your pooch to spend a spring break! We have three pet-friendly rooms; each has tiled floors and special bedding for your furry friend. Pet friendly rooms also have their own exterior, ground-floor entrance, so that pets can easily come and go from the comfort of your room.
Birding around Cannon Beach
If you’re not a dog person, perhaps something less intruding like birding interests you. There are lots of great places to see birds around the coast, especially sea birds, of course. Here are some of the spots we think are best:
South Jetty, Columbia River. Parking lot C has a viewing tower (use binoculars or spotting scope) where you can witness sea birds, some of the river estuary and grassy hummocks, hunting grounds for raptors and home to sparrows. Parking lot D has viewing bunker overlooking tidal flats where you can see many kinds of ducks and shorebirds.
Ecola State Park. From the viewpoint: pelagic and shore birds. Bald Eagles and Peregrine Falcons nest in the park and can often be seen hunting sea birds here. You cal get a good view of Bird Rocks with a scope.
Bird Rocks. Speaking of Bird Rocks…this is the nesting site for approximately 28,000 Common Murres each year. When the birds are nesting it looks like the rocks have a flattop haircut!
We know about lots of other great ways for you to spend your spring break holiday – just ask!
