Neahkahnie Mystery, Romance and Adventure
The Arch Cape Inn and Retreat sits nestled at the base of Neahkahnie Mountain.
Regarding Neahkahnie Mountain, there is a lot more to it than meets the eye.
In addition to being one of the most spectacular volcanic outcroppings on the coast, looming up through one of the World’s Only Temperate Rain Forests, local legend has it that in the 1600’s a Spanish galleon came to the area, carrying murder, treasure and mystery. According to this lore, a chest of gold was buried somewhere on the Mountain. People still hunt for it until this day.

Hug and Go Kiss at Hug Point
Aptly named… Hug Point, located mere yards from the Arch Cape Inn, really IS one of the best places to kiss on the North Oregon Coast.
At low tide, walk around the point to discover stunning caves, waterfalls and tide pools.
Slip in to one of the caves… and steal a kiss.
While the “Hug” part of the name may lead one to associate with “Kiss”, in reality, the name for this Oregon State Park derives from a couple of other interesting possibilities, still subject to interpretation. The main theory is that a road was carved into the cliff, much of which still exists today. This early road, along with grab holes, allowed early travelers to ‘hug the point’, as they made their way down the coast to Arch Cape.

Stay With Us
Come back after your hike and sit by the fire with food, wine and friends.
The beach, the beach, the beach…there is no place more relaxing, rejuvenating and romantic than an Oregon coast get-away for the special person that we call ‘Mom’.
This year we are hosting a very casual Mother’s Day Weekend, where our entire staff will be waiting to create a wonderful weekend experience, complete with a beautiful brunch presentation each morning and a Wine and Cider Appetizer Hour every afternoon.
Let us do the work, while Mom can rest and enjoy being waited on hand and foot for the entire weekend.
Can’t think of that last minute gift?
Surely, a special stay at our Castle on the Coast will make any Mom feel like the Queen she is!
March 7 through 10, enjoy four days of wine tasting, culinary feats and a very special wine walk, right here in Cannon Beach.
This community-wide festival features food, wine and arts events all over town! There will be six main wine tasting events, showcasing Northwest wines.
Arch Cape Inn is the prefect place for you to stay while in Cannon Beach. Our intimate and beautiful property is just the place for couples or a groups of friends to come and enjoy the Savor Cannon Beach Food & Wine Festival.
Wine Tasting Events
The Thursday Night Throwdown is the opening event for the weekend. Participants taste twelve wines (two of each varietal) and choose their favorites. The Battle of the Blends features four red and four white wine blends from the Northwest.
What’s That Varietal? is a blind tasting, a fun challenge that also educates participants to identify the varietals. There will also be a seminar on pairing food and wine.
Saturday is the Savor Cannon Beach Wine Walk. This is a superb way to enjoy wine, be safe and observe the beautiful scenery. The Wine Walk features over 30 Northwest wineries pouring tastings at Cannon Beach art galleries, restaurants and retail shops, all within easy waking distance in this compact beach community. So put on some comfortable shoes and join us for a great day on the Oregon Coast!
Culinary Events and Specials
Cannon Beach restaurants host special wine dinners and pairing menus throughout the festival. Other businesses organize a Tasting Tour, featuring free or low-cost tastings, ranging from chocolates to specialty salts. Local shops and galleries host their own events and specials over the course of the weekend.
Savor Cannon Beach Ticket Information
Festival events are limited in size in order to promote an intimate setting. Only around 100 tickets are available for tasting events and 500 tickets for the Saturday wine walk. There are two options for purchasing advance tickets for Savor Cannon Beach. Participants may purchase Festival Tickets which offer admission to all six of the festival’s official tasting events and seminars over the four days, including the Savor Cannon Beach Wine Walk. Or you may purchase tickets for just the Wine Walk on Saturday, March 9. Festival Tickets are priced at $119 each and are limited to a total of 100. Tickets for just the Wine Walk are $30 and you may purchase either ticket below using the Savor Cannon Beach website.
Winter is nearly over and springtime is just around the corner! Most of us have spent the last few months indoors and as the warmer weather returns, we encourage you to take to the outdoors!
Pet Friendly Lodging on the Oregon Coast
For us, the return of Spring means we are bringing our dogs back out to the beach and the park. If you are also a dog owner (or dog parent, as they say these days) our Cannon Beach B&B is pet friendly and the perfect place for you and your pooch to spend a spring break! We have three pet-friendly rooms; each has tiled floors and special bedding for your furry friend. Pet friendly rooms also have their own exterior, ground-floor entrance, so that pets can easily come and go from the comfort of your room.
Birding around Cannon Beach
If you’re not a dog person, perhaps something less intruding like birding interests you. There are lots of great places to see birds around the coast, especially sea birds, of course. Here are some of the spots we think are best:
South Jetty, Columbia River. Parking lot C has a viewing tower (use binoculars or spotting scope) where you can witness sea birds, some of the river estuary and grassy hummocks, hunting grounds for raptors and home to sparrows. Parking lot D has viewing bunker overlooking tidal flats where you can see many kinds of ducks and shorebirds.
Ecola State Park. From the viewpoint: pelagic and shore birds. Bald Eagles and Peregrine Falcons nest in the park and can often be seen hunting sea birds here. You cal get a good view of Bird Rocks with a scope.
Bird Rocks. Speaking of Bird Rocks…this is the nesting site for approximately 28,000 Common Murres each year. When the birds are nesting it looks like the rocks have a flattop haircut!
We know about lots of other great ways for you to spend your spring break holiday – just ask!
Do you have a birthday coming up? Maybe an anniversary? Whatever your cause for celebration, our Inn on the Oregon Coast is an incredibly romantic location.
If you’ve been planning to propose to your loved one, we would like to give you some location suggestions where she (or he!) just won’t be able to say no.
Hug Point: Just south of Cannon Beach, this little wayside gives you easy access to the beach. North of the parking area you can still walk along the original trail carved into the point by stagecoaches. The wayside was named after the stargecoach route because it hugs the point. Looking further north, Haystack Rock, one of the most identifiable landmarks along the coastline, is easily visible.
Ecola State Park: As you leave the parking area, you’re traveling under the shade of the towering spruce trees until you suddenly emerge upon a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean. Be sure to have your ring ready! The stunning view will make the moment all the more magical.
The Top of the Astoria Column: The Astoria Column, which is over 80 years old, is a beloved landmark of the Pacific Northwest Coast. It is located in a wooded area, 600 feet above sea level on Coxcomb Hill in the town of Astoria (about 30 miles north of our inn). This also happens to be Oregon’s highest point, which makes the view astonishing. Majestic views of the countryside around Astoria, the great Pacific Ocean to the west and the Columbia River to the north are visible. Snow-capped volcanoes of the Cascade Range rise to the east and Saddle Mountain pierces the sky on the southern horizon.
While high above the ground, sweep your lover off her feet for Valentine’s day! Then, reward yourself for making it to the top of the Column with a delicious Northwest dinner.
